Facebook’s ‘A Look Back’ isn’t so cheery when seen through the page of a prostitute

4/23/2013 – OKC, OK — (by Brian Bates) I was doing some checking up on some known local prostitutes and pimps by looking over their social media accounts for story ideas and to see what’s going on in the city in their world… Yes, it seems even the criminally inclined can’t resist posting their updates, Instagrams, Tweets and Vines.

As I was looking over some pretty head shaking pics, quotes and videos I was taken back by a feature I had previously taken for granted on Facebook – the ‘A Look Back’ Feature – Described by Facebook as, “A Look Back is an experience that compiles your highlights since joining Facebook. Depending on how long you’ve been on Facebook and how much you’ve shared, you’ll see a movie, a collection of photos or a thank you card.”

Below is an example as seen on Facebook’s official YouTube channel…

If you have a Facebook account then you’re probably already familiar with the feature – if not, you can create your own here (you need to be logged in to Facebook first).

Something I noticed was that many of the women I know to be prostitutes (and a few of the pimps) in Oklahoma City have also created their own videos with the ‘A Look Back’ feature. The difference being that (at least for me) the feeling one gets when watching these videos has an effect that is in sharp contrast to the smiles one often experiences when watching most ‘A Look Back’ profiles filled with vacation pics, baby photos and embarrassing high school hairdos.

Here’s an example of one ‘A Look Back’ video posted on the Facebook page of an Oklahoma City prostitute that is known to work both S. Robinson Ave. and Backpage.com.

Instead of seeing precious moments you’d want to last a lifetime, you see lives wasted, youth lost and a foreshadowing of a future that most likely will end in death or incarceration.

I post this in hopes of providing insights to a world most of us have never experienced first hand and would never wish upon our worst enemy.
